The Governing Board play an integral part in the running of St Margaret's at Hasbury CE Primary School and Nursery.
In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing boards, the three core strategic functions of St. Margaret’s at Hasbury, Church of England Primary School Governing Board are:
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, values and strategic direction;
Holding the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
In July 2019, an IEB was put into place. The IEB will fulfil all the functions of a Governing body

Sue has over 37 years HR experience all within the service sector. During the last 18 years she has held senior and high profile HR posts, providing an effective and responsive HR service to many schools/academies/ nurseries predominantly based in the West Midlands area. She has been a governor at a local primary school for 8 years and has been elected as Vice Chair of Governors for the last 6 years.
She is a Chartered Fellow of CIPD and has extensive experience in all aspects of HR Management from recruitment, conditions of service, absence management, staff welfare, handling discipline and grievances, retention, training and development, and redundancies through to resignations and retirements.
Sue has for a number of years, managed all employee relations matters affecting school-based staff, and led on the development and negotiation of policies and procedures to support effective HR management in schools. This aspect of her work has involved chairing formal consultation meetings with trade unions/ professional associations/school representatives etc., often requiring strong negotiation skills together with high levels of tact and diplomacy in order to gain support for the introduction/revision of such policies/procedures. As Acting Head of Schools’ HR, she managed and co-ordinated the on-going review of polices to ensure they reflected business needs and/or new legislative changes.
In former posts, she was the professional lead in ensuring schools ‘compliance with statutory regulations for safer recruitment and safeguarding requirements. The provision of advice/support in respect of Central School Records has been integral to all of my roles since its inception.
In the field of education, her broad in-depth knowledge of HR Practice and Employment Law, together with the ability to manage complex situations effectively and sensitively, has been crucial when working in a rapidly changing Children’s Services environment.
Sue was elected as a Governor at her local primary Old Swinford CE in October 2011. Two years later, she was elected as Vice Chair of Governors and has held this position to the present date. She is a designated Governor on the Pay Appeal and Staff Dismissal Committees and a member of the Headteacher Performance Management Panel as well as being the link Governor for SEND and Mental Health.
Bev has been a Headteacher of St Mary’s CE Primary School for the past 3 years and her schools most recent Ofsted Inspection in June 2018 recognised that she had readily identified where the school needed to improve and took effective action and that she has provided a clear and consistent direction for the school and managed staff changes well. She was identified as having an accurate understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for development. All the staff who responded to the Ofsted survey said that they were proud to be a member of the school.
Bev has developed a Collaborative Group of schools that now work to a common development plan and have grown their capacity to enable the four schools to support each other in all areas of school improvement. She has participated in the Peer to Peer programme of school improvement with the Hales Valley Teaching Alliance, as well as with the Diocese programme for school effectiveness for Headteachers, honing her skills as a school improvement leader.
Together with Matt Osborne (Dudley MBC Head of School Improvement) and Tim Reid (Worcester Diocese Head of School Improvement) Bev has already supported the new Headteacher at St. Margaret’s at Hasbury through the turbulent time of change described in other parts of this application. This support has clearly started to move standards forward by developing teaching and learning through the support and skills that her staff have been able to offer.
As a Headteacher of a church school, with previous experience of working in church schools, as well as having the experienced SIAMS (Bev’s school presently has an outstanding SIAMS judgment) we and the diocese feel she has the skills that will be able to continue to support the Headteacher at St. Margaret’s to ensure the golden thread of Christian Distinctiveness is embedded throughout the school.
I have been a School Business Manager in a variety of primary schools within Dudley for the last 14 years. At the church school I currently work at, I am responsible for: Finance, Information Governance, Premises, Health and Safety, Personnel and Governance.
As a mother of two primary-age children myself I am passionate about helping children achieve their full potential through education and ensuring all pupils have the very best opportunities to succeed whilst developing into responsible citizens with a lifelong love of learning.
I am delighted to take up my first Governors role at St. Margaret's, and am really looking forward to working with the children, staff and families within the school community.
