Welcome to Reception at St Margaret's at Hasbury.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage is designed to provide a happy, safe and interesting environment where children can gain an excellent start to their school journey. We pride ourselves on our positive, caring ethos which allows children to develop as individuals and begin to build long lasting friendships.

Our EYFS encompasses the seven areas of learning as described in the Dept. for Education's Statutory Framework. In Reception we aim to build on upon children's progress made in the three Prime Areas of Personal, social and emotional development (PSED), Communication and language (CL) and Physical Development (PD), and to flourish in the Specific Areas too. Those being Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Our school curriculum drivers of

  • Creativity
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Independence
  • Resilience
  • Curiosity

otherwise known as the 'Hasbury Hows' can regularly be seen in action. We believe these life skills to be essential attributes to being a successful learner and citizen in the future.

We recognise that our children are unique. They learn at different rates and have differing preferences and strengths. With this in mind we strive to provide learning environments indoors and outdoors that provide a safe learning spaces where you can play, explore, observe, create, be active, try things out, develop ideas, celebrate your successes and learn from your mistakes.

Our EYFS staff ensure that children experience a wide variety of activities. These can range from writing stories, designing products and generating calculations through to devising their own games and observing minibeasts in their weekly Forest School session.

Children are taught specific knowledge and vocabulary that we want them to use and understand. This has been carefully designed to prepare them for their future studies in our school. Staff are skilled at presenting this knowledge though play-based learning combined with objective led teaching sessions. In addition to our curriculum intentions we encourage children to explore and follow their own interests and we support them to develop these in order to maximise learning opportunities.

Children are taught phonics, handwriting, literacy and maths every day and enjoy listening to books being read to them too. Reception complete specially designed units of work to promote writing based on 'The Write Stuff.' Grandma Fantastic regularly appears in literacy lessons with her collections of ambitious word choices!

Our Reception children regularly participate in Collective Worship, R.E. lessons and P.E. lesson as well as adult -led focused activities encompassing a range of subject areas.

Please refer to our Curriculum Maps for more information and be sure to look out for invitations to our seasonal events, church services and learning activity workshops.
