Mobile Phones in School

We recognise that some families may wish their child to carry a mobile phone for safety reasons when travelling to and from school independently. However, mobile phones are not required during the school day and their use is carefully managed to support safeguarding and minimise distractions to learning.

Who Can Bring a Mobile Phone to School?

Only Year 6 pupils who have permission to walk home independently are permitted to bring a mobile phone to school.

Children in other year groups, or Year 6 children who are collected by an adult at the end of the school day, should not bring a mobile phone onto the school site.

What Happens to the Phone During the School Day?

Any Year 6 pupil bringing a mobile phone to school must:

• Ensure the phone is switched off before entering school.
• Hand the phone directly to their class teacher at the beginning of the school day.
• Not access or use their phone at any point during the school day.

All mobile phones will then be taken to the school office, where they will be stored securely and supervised until the end of the school day.

At the end of the school day, phones will be returned to pupils who are walking home independently.

Smart Watches

Smart watches or other wearable devices that have the ability to make or receive calls or messages, take photographs, record audio/video or access the internet should not be used in school.

Our Expectations

These arrangements are in place to safeguard pupils, protect privacy and ensure that mobile devices do not distract from teaching and learning.

The school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to mobile phones brought onto the school site. We therefore ask that phones are only brought to school when they are genuinely needed for a child's journey to and from school.
